Installation and using the Jewish Calendar Program for Windows CE

Table Of Contents

1. Installing

To install it, put your pocket PC into the cradle, make sure that Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync is started, and then start the file install.exe contained in this archive on the desktop PC.
Now, the installation will proceed automatically.

If you have a device with Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC, Windows Mobile 6 Classic or Windows Mobile 6 Professional, you have to select the ARM processor when the dialog box Select Processor appears - the ARM processor has also be selected if your device has a XScale processor.

Note for Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC devices: When a confirmation message appears that the application is from an unknown vendor, acknowledge it with Yes.

2. Daily notes

Daily notes can be entered by pressing the stylus on the rectangle for the day, holding it down for two or three seconds and releasing it.
Notes can be copied into or pasted from the clipboard. If notes are present for a day, a symbol (three different colors chooseable) can be defined which is displayed in the calendar view.

If the notes appear too quickly when tapped on a day, you can adjust the time which you tap down the stylus to make a day note by clicking on Menu, Configure... and Notes Timeout... - please try to increase it in 1000 steps until you have reached your desired time.

3. Import into Outlook

The Hebrew day, holidays, candle lighting, end of shabbat times, Zmanim, readings, Yahrzeit and optionally Daf Yomi for a range of dates can be imported into the Outlook Calendar on the pocket PC. When the data has been imported, a message box appears, and then you can view the imported data as an All Day Event in Outlook Calendar.
In the month calendar of Outlook, it is shown by a blue rectangle - if you have already made notes for a specific time in the calendar, a blue filled rectangle is also displayed.
When a whole day is displayed, you have to click on the line with the Hebrew day to view the other imported data.

For importing Jewish calendar data into Outlook, the calendar view in Hebrew has to be turned off temporarily.
This can be done by clicking on Menu, Configure... and making sure that the item Hebrew Calendar View is unchecked, i.e. no checkmark is placed besides this menu item.
The Jewish Calendar for Pocket PC does not support importing Jewish calendar data in Hebrew.

When importing large times ranges, it should be done in parts of one to two months, since otherwise the speed of importing will be very slow.

For more information, please see the help file.

Alternatively, you can use the Jewish Calendar Data Export Program for desktop Windows which imports the data into desktop Outlook, offers more features, is faster and also suitable for a larger time range.
The data in desktop Outlook can be synchronized with Pocket Outlook via ActiveSync.

The Jewish Calendar Data Export Program can be downloaded free of charge from the website

  http://www.tichnut.de/jewish/dataexport.html

Please note that, if you use the Jewish Calendar Data Export program, you may not use the Import to Pocket Outlook feature of the Jewish Calendar for Pocket PC anymore, because otherwise double entries occur.
